The Idle Hands record shop was established early in 2011 as a response to the closure of the legendary Rooted Records, a store which for the previous 12 years had provided Bristol with the finest in Dubstep, Drum n’ Bass, Techno, House and Reggae music. Picking up where Rooted left off, Idle Hands Records became (and remains) Bristol’s only independent purveyor of upfront electronic music.

Situated in the vibrant Stokes Croft area, the new shop has rapidly become a social epicentre for the multitude of DJ’s, producers and music enthusiasts who live and work in the area. Over the previous months the store has played host to a number of succesful in-stores: 2562, Chrissy Murderbot, Hyetal, Tapes and Baobinga have all graced the shop’s turntables; the crowds spilling out into the road outside further cementing Idle Hands’ standing in the Bristol music community.

With years of involvement in underground music culture on many levels we value and understand the many aspects that go into getting good music to the right ears. Artists, labels, distributors, promoters and independent shops working together make the UK scene what it is; we believe cooperation and mutual support is key to maintaining that.

With the launch of our online store we hope to offer the same level of insight and experience in selling records we currently provide locally on a national and international scale. There are few places on the planet as musically inspired as Bristol just now, Idle Hands is ideally situated to push the city’s sound further afield.
